A dancer’s range of expression is powerful and integrates movement throughout body, mind & spirit. This course in classic bellydance works with the basics of supporting, stretching and strengthening the body. As we learn technique, we’ll explore how these basics integrate a relationship between the music and our own personal expression. All of this play and learning springs from balanced posture and movement, and the rhythms of the Middle East will enhance our study. We will focus on basic isolations, including slides, lifts and making hypnotic circles with chest and hips. Add in the fluid grace of snake arms, the simmering heat of shimmies, and we’ll be on our way, dancing the Silk Road together. Prerequisite: None Attire: Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow the instructor to easily see posture and body movement. We suggest anything appropriate for Yoga (including athletic bras, close-fitting T shirts, broomstick skirts, stretchy pants).
